The second edition of The Learning Edge organized Events Management Workshop held on Saturdays 13th and 20th November, 2010. The training which held in Smart Executive Training Room, off Opebi Road, Ikeja was facilitated by Funke Bucknor-Obruthe of Zapphaire Events, Femi Dahunsi of No Surprises Events Architects, Kingsley Aigbona of The Learning Edge and other resource persons.
According to the officials of The Learning Edge, the workshop was designed for participants to learn all the skills they need to be able to start their own events planning and management business. What they learnt includes Event Architecture, Vendors Relation and Management, Project Management, Crisis Management, Venue and Ambience Management, Event
Entertainment and lots of other things. According to one of the participants, the curriculum was far more than what they needed to start and run own events companies.
The workshop which attracted participants who are still in employment of major banking, insurance, advertising, and events planning organizations also had events managers in attendance. They came from Ilorin, Abeokuta, Benin, Ibadan, Abuja, Calabar, Agbara and from all over Lagos State. When asked why they attended the workshop, many of the participants said that starting a business in the events management industry is their ‘escape route’ from paid employment. Others said that they needed the skill on their present jobs.
The workshop was characterized by a lot of examples, case studies, and exercises and presented with catchy and relevant visual aids.
Certificates were awarded to all the participants.
According to the officials of The Learning Edge, the next events management workshop would be coming up on 5th and 12th February, 2011 in Lagos and 26th March, 2011 in Accra, Ghana. The organization would also start their 6 weeks Events Management Training classes on 15th January, 2011.
